About Us

Who We Are

The Gerontology Program at UNC Charlotte began in the mid-80s under the direction of Dr. Dena Shenk. The program includes students and faculty from many disciplines across the University. Currently the program is sponsored jointly by the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences and the College of Health and Human Services and supported by the Office of Interdisciplinary Studies. We offer an undergraduate gerontology minor, a gerontology concentration in the Interdisciplinary Studies BA, and a graduate Certificate in Gerontology. The multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary nature of the program prepares students and professionals interested in specific careers in the field of Gerontology.
