New Course Spring 2020: Grief and Loss over the Lifespan

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course equips students to be professionals who understand and respond to individuals, groups, organizations and communities that have experienced symbolic and tangible loss and experience resulting grief responses. The course identifies different theories used to address grief and loss over the lifespan that include normal and complicated grief, cultural and spiritual influences. Vicarious trauma will also be addressed along with skills and strategies to manage the effects as a professional.

INSTRUCTOR:

Amy Jamerson studied Social Work and Gerontology at UNC Charlotte. She earned her Master’s in Social Work at Winthrop University, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and has taught a variety of classes at UNC Charlotte including electives on health care and older adults. Ms. Jamerson has worked in Hospice and is currently employed at Levine Cancer Institute, working in the palliative clinic addressing psychosocial issues patients face due to their disease and treatment.
